To Stone The Sparrow

Why stone the sparrow as she sings To silence her with broken wings The gentle creature knows no hate So cast no stones, it’s not too late Though feathered of a different score Her song desires just to soar To live and let love bears no cost And nothing to avail is lost Why stone the sparrow as she flies So sad whenever something dies Created by a love divine As life is meant to thrive and shine There must a place be, to remain Where all can sing in sweet refrain So sing, oh sparrow, never cease To sing your hopeful song of peace

Oh, this is so redolent - whatever that means - of a poem by Robert Frost about clapping his hands to shoo away a songbird by his window. Wish I could remember its name... The great poet is surely smiling down from heaven at your offering, Mike. Great!!

sensitive, caring, and profound words, Mike. Using the gentle bird was a brilliant metaphor. Why stone the sparrow? Why hate? I think many of us are asking that question a great deal of late. I appreciate the upbeat ending as well as your rhyme scheme. Just exquisite poetry, Mike. Am faving. Have a great evening, Sara

it might work if we could all identify as sparrows and sing together as Tom said. Alas a choir is one voice composed of many singing in unison

It's what most of us want Mike, a place to go where peace and love are the norm Where we can all sing in harmony regardless of religion or colour. We live in hope. Hope your week is off to a good start. Tom
