To Reach Out and Forget Someone

It’s late but I decide to call you anyway. I pick up the receiver, my pulse begins to race As I dial my fingertips begin to perspire. I think back to the perfect romance we once shared. It rings once. I remember back to the warmth and security I felt in your embrace. It rings twice. I smile as I remember back to the wonderful day, you chose me to be your wife. It rings a third time. My heart jumps as the silence is broken. “Hello...” purrs a sleepy female’s voice. I hang up and lie in what used to be our bed. I cry as I remember back to the day you left. And now I can so easily remember why.
