To Pass Something Off As Acceptable

What does that mean?
I'm sittin' here tryin' to figure
like if it means like you don't like
the use of the word like then is like, 
like un acceptable?

Or if you meet a stranger who has
no idea you just spent
thirty seven hours in the ED with your
daughter who tried to OD and they make a crack
about valium, is that un acceptable?

And who is the one who
does the accepting anyhow?
