To Nip a Drip

Ice cream cones are meant to drip
But once you’ve got the knack,
You catch those drops on tongue or lip
To help preserve your snack.

At times the bottom of the cone
Might form a little hole,
Allowing an escape, unknown
When ice cream’s in a bowl.

So someone came up with a plan -
A paper cone-shaped coat
To overlay the cone, but man,
They’d never get my vote!

The paper's somehow always stuck;
It’s hard to peel away.
Thus, oftentimes, I’m out of luck
And there’s a price to pay.

I either toss the cone before
I’m finished or I might
Ingest some shreds of paper, more
Than I want in a bite!

They would never get my vote either "They’d never get my vote!" I despise those paper cones!

Part of the fun, as I recall, of eating an ice cream cone was keeping up with or ahead of those inevitable "drips". Can't remember when I had my last cone treat. Here's the "typo patrol" again...Line 2.

We have the ones with a chocolate flake in. There’s a wedge of chocolate in the bottom too, so it’s worth the hassle… hmm… maybe they could use rice paper.

The bane of modern life - The Designer - nobody told then if it aint broke don't fix it. I have a list of occupations i would like to meet a representative of dow a dark alley with a baseball bat in my hand. Designers come pretty near the top of the list. Love your poem. Terry

100%, Ilene. Those paper-wrapped i.c. cones are more trouble than they're worth! Give me the old-fashioned drippers any day! :)gw

Ah, but I understand the paper is more nutritious than the cone? But thoroughly enjoyed your poem! Aloha!

I have an ice cream cone every single day - if they are minis, I have three of them, so I accept this poem in honor of me.

No matter how you eat the ice cream... it is always better than you know what!!

Oh, I'll have to vote for a cone. If licked properly around and around, it never drips on me. I do like to eat the cone, too. Good poem, Ilene.

Hello Ilene, I would rather have my ice cream in a bowl. Many a times when eating ice cream from a cone the drips would land on me. So I use a bowl or paper bowl. Hugs.
