To My Mom
I'm sorry for the nights I've kept you up,
I realize it's gonna take awhile to rebuild that trust.
I've broken lives, promises, and some other things,
But thanks to your support I can make a change.
By your love for me I can endure these extremes,
No more lies to give you nightmarish dreams.
Now I trust that your dreams for me can come true,
Nothing in my life but misery without you.
You know I never listened to what you told me,
Yet being apart from you now I truly can see.
Not ever realizing that it takes a change of mind,
My way was sulking or reverting to the last time.
I was quick to find someone else to blame,
In the long run I would only hide out in shame.
Then I came to a devastating realization,
That old behavior is not accepted in civilization.
