To Err is Human, to Judge Divine

We live in a world of judgement
Judging ourselves and others
And everything in between.
When someone does us wrong
We naturally gauge how wrong
And what the appropriate consequence
Should be.
When someone does us right
We do the exact same thing.
Without this judgement
We wouldn’t know how to act,
We wouldn’t know if the soup was too hot to sip,
Or the dog too dangerous to pet.
Life is full of such split second decisions
Some conscious, some less so.
But yet we are told not to judge
As if somehow every individual is a mystery
Sequestered in their own relative reality
The causes and conditions of beyond our grasp.
But does it really matter if we understand why
When the how, what and where
Is staring us in the face?
Most people don’t really understand the why
Of what they do themselves
Let alone what anyone else does.
Actions are either justified or unjustified
But it is our judgement which discerns which.
In this way even our fallible limited judgement
Is an aspect of the divine,
An intuitive weighing of actions
And their consequences
Balancing reason and feeling
In the crucible of being.
And without the reciprocal judgement of others
We would be blind to the effect of ours.
