To Be Young

I can still remember,
some of how it felt.
The newness of things.
Each day being a sunny day
of newness.
Exploration
of what's all around you.
Exciting!

I can still remember the thrill
of it all.
The thrill fades overtime
as life starts
taking its toll, its shots
at your body and soul.
Survival mode takes over,
as the realities of life sets in.

Years pass bloody and beaten now.
But a survivor
of the gauntlet called life.

I can still remember some
of how it was to be young.
