To: a Brilliant Poetess
Your tomorrow is my today--
this afternoon, when the bell tolls
I am reminded of the distance
between oblivious night, forgiving day,
we lay--on our bed of roses.
My gentle butterfly, my soft pillow,
your face undeniable--so present--
I hang my smile in your garden,
your virtues are like flowers,
they bloom in confident silence.
Like petals on a broken bough,
you steal the scene all around--
An empty jar of my lonely self
is filled with the song you sing,
my lockbox, my calming breeze.
With a single breath you prevail,
inhaling my deepest and darkest fears
exhaling my will to write in verse,
the highway of my life you travel
my rolling hills, my mysterious forest.
My today is your tomorrow--
for this moment I ask to borrow,
on each crescent moon you wonder
how our love could be this true,
if we come to lose each other
I would some day, again, find you.
