Title Unknown

What can I say about time
that hasn't already been said?
With far more eloquence than this
by people who are all long dead

It seems I've misplaced a day
Or two, I'm really not sure
The weeks are all blending together
and I cannot keep track anymore

Some friends have recently gone
down into that final goodnight
For a lifetime they'd been by my side
til they vanished, one by one, from sight

One long ago February day
my mother departed too soon
Once again that cold date approaches
under a waxing crescent moon

While reflecting on her passing
a hard truth confirmed all my fears
How could I have been so damned careless?
It seems I've misplaced twenty years
