'tis the Season

Silent snowflakes melt on my nose
and gather at my toes
'Tis the season to contemplate and reason
This year's journey was at times trying
Moments spent with tears crying
Yes, it's made me a person stronger
Through heartache for those who are no longer

As I stand in front of my tree
Lights and ornaments reflect upon me
Like the hard decision made, I now know
The right thing to do was to let go
For others, there wasn't time to say goodbye
Things left unanswered, wondering why

Digging deep within my own
I find the place where hope has grown
Through a child's innocence and heart so pure
I can wake each day with reasons to endure
Strength from family of course was always there
New friends gave unconditional support and care

Warmth of the holiday has made its way
Into my heart, with loved ones missed, to stay
They leave with me a gift profound
Through my losses I genuinely found
A love so true that will never end
My final gift to them I send
A goodbye for now, until we meet again...
