Time To Heal

You're my inner child.
I'm your outer shell.
There's something that you need to know
And it will serve you well...

Your younger life experiences
Were unkind to you.
As ashamed as I am, I must admit
That I've been unkind too.

You are made of tough material.
You're determined. You are strong.
You defy my expectations.
You've often proved me wrong.

For the times you have screamed out to me
And I paid you no heed,
For the times you sought my smile and love
And I failed to fill your need,

I want to say I'm sorry.
You need to know I'm listening now.
This outer shell constrained you
Yet you battled on somehow!

Now we will communicate
And we will make amends.
We need to move on from the past,
My younger self and I as friends.

Dear inner child, your fears are felt.
Every emotion you face, I feel.
It's time to journey on as one.
It's time for us to heal.

this poem felt like I was supposed to write it. Seems strange how many of us out here have also dealt with similar situations and really need to let our inner child out. Thankyou for sharing. Also you commented on one of my poems and I appreciate your words.
