Time and Tide Will Not Wait

Time ticked until the stroke of ten
before descending its wrath on men
And at that hour it escaped its cage
Pendulum chiming with total rage

Humans are in chaos as they await
time to restart. In its hands, their fate
Does this mean heartache will not heal
until once more bells ring out in peal?

Ongoing wars, a pandemic to battle
Earth warming; earthquakes that rattle
Everything seems to be in such upheaval
We need relief from these days of evil

Woe to those with little hope and belief
who see only doom and wallow in grief
who no longer have faith in their vision
and chide others with scorn and derision

Don't condemn a country or it's leaders
after having four years of bottom feeders
Humans are imperfect. We're all flawed
but you hold a gun in the firing squad

You write of patriotism, but have none
wielding your pen as if it were a loaded gun
You roughshod America with seditious words
like mad cows running in stampeding herds

Remember, "Time and tide wait for no man,"*
Tragedy has struck those living in Afghanistan
Blame Biden, but include Presidents in the past
so reprimand them, too when you lambaste

Time has no power to stop of its own accord
Its hands keep moving and will not be ignored
The world has problems that must be rectified
by the coalition of nations it will be allied

Call me a dreamer. "It'll never happen," you say
that may be a reverie, but come what may
When the times comes God will raise His hand
and at that time, the world will understand.

Wow, Jenna....this is masterful writing. I'm home and thinking about lifting my pen. I've had a lot of reading to catch up on, but this poem was worth it all!!!!!

Your poem is rich in allusions, deep in meaning but with some hope for this restless world. Marvellous poetry. Hugs.

Don't hold your breath until God lifts an hand! As Ben Franklin was fond of quoting, "God helps those who help themselves", but most people have a different understanding of "help themselves!" Nice write, though! This world could certainly use more Jennas and Susans!

What nice comments you offer, Rico. We take everything for granted, and the world suffers for our shortcomings. Thank you, Rico.

Since the beginning of time mankind has suffered trials and tribulations and a lot of it is his own doing. Only by uniting and putting aside our differences and working together will we see any real changes. Some always willing to point the finger of blame at others, but they forget they're pointing three at themselves. Tom

When, if ever, will mankind learn to take care of the gifts we've been given? You're right about the finger pointing, Tom. Thanks so much for leaving me your thoughts.

Jenna , So powerful, wise and full of truth . Time waits for no man , woman or child . So much turmoil and uncertainty now . We must learn to love one another and have a United voice to help heal our world . Hate divides us. The calls from Mother Earth are real and dire . We must ALL be a part of the healing . Important words you have penned. In gratitude, Susan
