'till Death Do Us Part

'TIL DEATH DO US PART Their wedding was in a garden it was a picture book sight the groom, tall and handsome, the bride, radiant in white. Their future held much potential vows were said from the heart pledging their love to each other promised 'til death do us part'. They seemed a perfect couple happy contented with life he the loving husband, she the adoring wife. Then things began to unravel a dark side started to show he lost control of his temper, what sparked it she didn't know. One night he became abusive and caused her grievous pain in the morning said he was sorry promised never to do it again. Hoping he'd change for the better decided to trust him and stay thought maybe it was her fault had caused him to act that way. For a few weeks all was peaceful life returned to a pleasant calm but violence again took over, this time he did greater harm. She should have left him sooner but instead became his slave her body was found months later, thrown in a shallow grave. Should you become a victim as so many are each day leave, and don't ever linger help is a phone call away. Copyright © Vivien Wade March 5, 2016

This is a sad poem that shouts of abuse, lost love and pain, a deep piece that struggles with feelings of hate, fear, revulsion and love in a potent brew of emotions. A well written engrossing poem filled with truth that tugs at the heart. Emile.

Thanks for comment. Australian government is in the process of stricter laws on abuse. AVO's mean little. I believe the best solution is Jesus, who can change the heart. 11 Corinthians 5:17

This is some great first post Vivien! A warm welcome to Poetry Soup! I can relate to this. I agree, once is enough to see the handwriting on the wall, and begin planning an exit. Sage advice! Aloha, Connie

Thanks for taking time to comment. It's hard to understand why some stay so long and take the beatings. There is help these days. I am enjoying poetry soup, so many talented poets. Blessings, Vivien

Thanks Karen. Sorry you had to go through this. Pleased you left. In Australia 1 person dies every week at the hands of a partner, and sometimes even includes the children. I have been blessed with a loving husband for almost 60 years. I wish you peace and happiness. Blessings, Vivien

Thanks Nicolas,it happens more often than we know. Many women are frightened to leave.I.volunteered at a women's shelter. All have waiting lists. It affects the children badly. God's Word is the answer. Blessings, Vivien

wow. physical abuse; what can i say... it's very sad and to observe this first hand can make one numb... i just hope those on the receiving end can come to terms with this sort of torture; which can also be served verbally. i pray the victim can find God in such torment. God said that husband must love and treat wife gently. overall, i feel sad; but well written. cheers!

Thank you for comment. In Australia, and probably other countries, 1 woman is killed by a partner every week! They are frightened to leave, and sometimes blame themselves. So sad. Most times the abuser says it will never happen again, but it does. Blessings, Vivienl

I don t know why some men are like this, I ve heard alot of this type of stories, msome men try to show their power on women who are weak who can defend themselves that s the worst thing because they knew that whatever we do they have to live with us however I m new on this site and would really appreciate if you could find time to read my poems and give your honest reviews about them and I really like the idea of your poem
