'till Death Do Us Part
'TIL DEATH DO US PART
Their wedding was in a garden
it was a picture book sight
the groom, tall and handsome,
the bride, radiant in white.
Their future held much potential
vows were said from the heart
pledging their love to each other
promised 'til death do us part'.
They seemed a perfect couple
happy contented with life
he the loving husband,
she the adoring wife.
Then things began to unravel
a dark side started to show
he lost control of his temper,
what sparked it she didn't know.
One night he became abusive
and caused her grievous pain
in the morning said he was sorry
promised never to do it again.
Hoping he'd change for the better
decided to trust him and stay
thought maybe it was her fault
had caused him to act that way.
For a few weeks all was peaceful
life returned to a pleasant calm
but violence again took over,
this time he did greater harm.
She should have left him sooner
but instead became his slave
her body was found months later,
thrown in a shallow grave.
Should you become a victim
as so many are each day
leave, and don't ever linger
help is a phone call away. Copyright © Vivien Wade March 5, 2016
