Tight, Not Too Tightly

Hold me close, but not too closely Have a rose, I love you mostly. Hold me tight, but not too tightly Give me sight to love you rightly. We come and we go Embrace, release We hum with the show A happy face, only a piece. We bring people near, but keep some distance We are ruled by fear, so we don’t see a missed chance. We give people flowers to convey emotion But keep them in shallow waters, never invited into our ocean. Embrace and release is a general rule And when done correctly, an effective tool. For those who are raising a child likely find Hands are only held so long and they have to unbind. Because hold them close, but not too closely And they’ll love you most, netted and grossly Hold them tight, but not too tightly Or they can’t take flight, treated too lightly. I give you a hug, to show that I care And let go with a shrug, we’ll meet somewhere. A hand on the back, a stroke of the hair We will come back, we’ll meet somewhere. All of life is this same basic process Finding a new embrace to cope with our losses. Hold them tight, but not too tightly Saying I love you, constantly, nightly. Holding loved ones’ hands as they grow old I’ve lead them to their promised land when they go cold. Hold them close, honestly, probably closer, They don’t come back when it’s over. I’ve held and let go of friends far too young Who released their hope, emptied and stopped their lungs. Embrace and release is something I know too well, Embrace and release can hurt like hell. And here we go again, embrace and release God, please, this time give me strength. Give me peace.

This is advice I want to give to parents, but it is not what I do. "Hold them tight, but not too tightly Or they can’t take flight, treated too lightly. " or should do but it is PERFECT!
