Tick Tick Tick
Tick Tick Tick
Alone in the night all grey and dark
The pendulum counts, each second she marks,
With constant clarity and patient beat
She marches on in a four inch sweep.
As if pushing the evening towards day
This lever of time has nothing to say
But tick, tick, tick,
Then tick, tick ,tick.
No matter the issues of before
What ever occurred outside her door,
She answers all as she sees fit,
With tick, tick, tick.
One single swing and now becomes then
It happens like that again and again
Chewing up time in patient beat,
Now always dashes a hasty retreat.
All slaves we to this mistress’ swing
Some curse and some laud her constant being,
Some she serves and some are driven,
But all are paced by what she’s given.
In her wisdom this lady of lore
Is blamed by many for peace and war
Life and death all march in her line,
The cadence call being, “I ran out of time”.
There in the dark in solemn pose
Her travel, her dance is all she knows
Moved by her master one day she’ll quit,
Then judgment or welcome, tick tick tick.
