Throwback To Real

A journey running clocks in reverse
To the happiest childhood days / drawing
Crooked hearts / red crayon painted
Over every line meant you were the
One / with eraser tainted scribbled notes
Passed during class / remember those
Two boxes / checking yes meant you
Were my girl and I’d love you forever
Or maybe just till the end of school that
Day / whichever came sooner / tomorrow is
Another forever so I’ll pass you more notes /
Share my grapes with you / at morning break
You let me sip from your flask of juice
Without wiping the mouth after meant
That you really loved me / Fridays called
For two forever days and no running
On the playground meant that I’d really
Miss you / summer vacation seemed
So far away / unfathomable separation
Hearts not able to comprehend why
Talking on the phone for ten minutes
Was like heaven / cause that’s all our
Parents would allow / we’re only seven
And the definition of sexy was frilly
Socks and pigtails maybe a Shabba Ranks
Fade / part optional / us coming in the
Bedroom only meant it was a birthday
Party and your mommy helped us cut the
Cake together / and “I love Scooby Doo”
Was all the game I needed / yea the Smurfs
Too / planning our future was calling you
My little mermaid so we could live happily
Ever after / this love is a throwback to then
When real love was simple / playing but not
Games / now love is spoken with a real name
Yours…
