Throw Away The Key

Go ahead....
and throw away the key,,,
There's nothing left inside my head .....
of my sanity.

If only I could change...
what it is I have become,
and return to the beginning....
of where I started from.

But I know I made my choices....
the dye has long been cast....
There will be no escaping......
the actions of my past.

Please let me fade away...
Forever from your mind,,,,,
Gather all of those memories....
and leave them far behind...

I've found a path of comfort...
Free of misery and despair....
Of my earthly worries.....
I no longer have a care.

Hello Darrel, your poem speaks volumes about the weight of regret and the longing for escape from the burdens of the past. I loved how the imagery of throwing away the key symbolizes a desire to lock away painful memories and find peace in oblivion. Yet, beneath the despair, there's a glimmer of acceptance and resignation, a recognition of the irreversible nature of our choices. A powerful reflection on the human condition and the complexities of redemption and forgiveness. - Blessings, Daniel

Thank you for your kind comment and for taking the time to read this peace. I have hesitated in responding because of the nature and origin of the piece ... which frankly deals with thoughts of suicide. The reality of facing the end and releasing others from carrying memories of a past when we were together. The peace I speak of is found on the path of no longer carrying pain or despair .. A rather dark write, which is laced with some truths and some exaggerations.
