Through the Mist

Through The Mist

Too many years have made their mark.
She begs to be set free,
To fly again, and hold Love's spark
unleashed, most ardently.

Can love transcend all time and space,
Breach bound'ries heavy laid,
Assault the heart's repentant grace
and steal locked mem'ries paid?

He strides, revealing through the mist,
Forgotten treasured scenes,
Reviving lips he once had kissed
'till Death cut vast ravines.

Here in that twilight time and place
Where all things magic thrive,
Two hearts, as one, beat face to face
embracing love --alive.

I am a non-native speaker of English, and I have a question. I have seen many poems where parts of words are left off or cut out like 'twixt or 'tween (elision). And for you here mem'ries, 'till.... Is that an accepted form in poetry? No critique by the way, just plain and simple curiosity :)

Yeah, I saw the usefulness in the syllable counting too lol, but wasn't sure if it would be an allowed thing. Paloma P uses this a lot too. I love her poems, and I love yours.

Thank you Darren. I appreciate your thoughts and questions--always. As far as what is and isn't accepted in poetry, gosh, I can't say. I'm from the South USA. Shakespeare, Wadsworth, Poe,Dickens, to name a few also used elision. It is also used in music for the same reason: meter and rhythm...helps with those syllables. Lol. Wow. This was good conversation. Big Hugggs.

This reminds me of that great old musical, Sweethearts, where the two are united again in death. A great song sung by Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy. Like this one a lot. Love, daver
