Three Little Words

O radiant child in form and face Whose beauty transcends the commonplace, I see you across the many miles Of empty hearts and worldly wiles. I see you in the evening hours When loneliness wields its greatest powers. I see you in the dawn’s sparkling dew Where the sun’s reflection is a reflection of you. I see you and yet have nothing to say Save for three little words that would have their way. Three words they are that would have their release And when having been said would bring me peace. They seek the freedom of boundless flight Which is deemed by them to be their right. They are lightly perched upon my tongue Impatiently waiting to be sprung. Once free they would soar to Heaven’s height Yet gently on your heart alight. They would come to you as a summer’s rain To quicken the blooms of your heart’s fertile plain. They would be the rainbow that colors the sky With a promise of hope to brighten your eye. These three little words of minor dimension Would speak volumes of my heart’s intention, And it is my wish to set them free That they might find their way back to me; But still these words are fully chained And so my elation is thus restrained, For greater is the difference in time than space And no want of years can bridge nor replace The chasm that is this age’s abyss Which bars my heart from joyous bliss.
