Three Blinks
Only three blinks and life is through
The soul whisper spoke, at once I knew,
Three blinks left of life for me
When senses and breath and pulse all flee.
The masks, the smoke, the facades all run,
Hunting another’s vain welcome,
Clarity flashes and time reigns in
Death is ringing, I am drawn to greet him.
(Count to three)
Blink
(Count to three)
Oh my life! What have I done?
All turns grey and I have no one.
Icy fear blankets my being
Life is history, death the beginning.
What am I leaving? Where am I going?
Why did I not think he would be showing?
When did I suppose life would be ending?
How is it now that death is winning?
(Count to three)
Blink
(Count to three)
The end is lingering, oh so near
I cry out…Can anyone hear?
Straining to stare through eyes of tears
My life was a blink…..All those years!!
Grey goes black and ice moves in,
My life! My life! Oh to live again!
But no second chance now, no reprieve.
Soul sheds flesh as the latter heaves.
(Count to three)
Blink
(Count to three)
Now no breath, now no beating,
Now no senses, I cease being.
Now the beginning, realms past the brink,
My mark, my legacy, gone in a blink.
