Thousand Mile Stare

By Laura
June 17, 2015

The war has left my broken heart
But scars stay where they've always been
I wish I could forget those nights
The lonely, desperate tears within

I can't unsee those horrible things
The lies, the cries, the curdling screams
I'll never forget how it used to feel
When every nightmare was becoming real

Eye of the storm or salvation at last?
Finding the middle and calling it class
Maybe the sophists were spelling my fate
Selling wicked lies to the mass's estate

Such a sweet dream of foundation-less graves
Feeling good enough to think that, maybe Jesus saves
With everything to lose and even more to gain
Approaching this precipice with memories of pain

Sunshine starts to peak through the weary, summer clouds
Light enough to smile in spite of what they know
I'll never be the same cause I have seen too much
But I know how to show you heaven with a touch
