Thoughts For the Young

Thoughts For the Young
(written for the old)

Thoughts for the young this morning
Are wandering through my brain
Concern and need to help them cope
To not let them miss the train

Eager to find what life's about
There's trepidation but not much
For youth is of adapting
Overcoming fear and such

There are some lessons to be learned
From these young adults we see
It's not the world where we grew up
It nevermore will be

Do not covet them their youthfulness
But help them through the fray
For the simple lives when we grew up
Are not their lives today

Be a listening post to hear them
Do not pontificate
For they as you must find themselves
And the direction of their fate

Be a shoulder there to cry on
If they ever have the need
Wrap your arms around their shoulders
Tell them you love them yes indeed

Cheer them in their efforts
Clap your hands and let them know
That their achievements all mean something
As through their lives they go

Don't despair if they don't listen
To advice that you may give
You put it out there for them
It is their choice in how to live
