Thou Shalt Not

In Louisiana, there’s a law That people ought to hate, About the 10 Commandments, Which defies church versus state. For every public classroom Must, in giant font, display These rules, where courts already ruled That students need not pray. Of course, no one should kill or steal Or covet, but for all, The Lord and Sabbath references Should not be on the wall. In private or religious settings, Thou shalt save a spot For the 10 Commandments, but in public Buildings, thou shalt not!

I think you have it right. Without the religious reference and the Thou, I think it could be reworded as steps to success. The concepts are universal.

It wasn’t always like this. Children were educated with Judeo-Christian material. It is lost to this generation of kids, morals. It is not separation of all ideas but mostly Christian ones that helped this nation become one that defended other nations and allowed people to live a better life. Saying all that, our nation has never been a perfect one, but the ideas of freedom of speech, religion, etc.. have the ideals set forth. Just my thoughts. Thoughtful poetry as always, Ilene!

Last stanza a real zinger there, Ilene. Not to worry: The Supreme Court will overthrow this one if it even comes to that.
