Those Who Share
The day before, my eyes opened.
I could afford, but at my need
did beg for water and a token-
To buy some bread on which to feed.
I appeared bright and rich to all,
on my feet were a fancy pair.
Yet had no units for a call,
nor any due to shave my beard
I asked a man for some water,
And another for some money,
while i did my heart beat faster
for fear that they might refuse me.
then I thought...
If i have fear; that i won't get,
some water whence i have at home,
and once, for food and grain i fret,
that someone would not share his own,
what kind of fear do beggars have,
before your face, beside your stride?
when in their homes, they have no jar
where food and grain usually lies.
most people say "they have four limbs"
"they shouldn't beg","i will not help".
but even Jesus sought these things,
and depended on those who shared.
