This Shadow

A heart's pain flows out in tears
But Grief never escapes through the eyes.
It stays like a lingering shadow
Numbs the soul, till it wants to die.

Grows wretchedly each waking day
Grips with its claws and drains
All hope, all will, to go on and stay
As a mournful dirge plays its strain.

Only Time uncloaks this heaviness
Like all wounds it heals our sorrow
It's the only balm for our human distress
It's the light that gets rid of this shadow.
