This Country That I Love

as i sit to write

right by my window

open to the night

and all its sounds

I hear outside

the cracking of fireworks

already being fired

before the celebration

of the 4th of July

our cherished Independence Day!

And I wish to cry

for it seems the importance

of the day is turned quite light

folks play with fireworks

but forget to remember why

forget the dedication to the death

of so many, their fight

to ensure that this land

beholds for all, the rights

to the pursuit of happiness.

May you have a wonderful 4th of July, remembring those who fought and died for
your rights.
