They Will Ask Why

A thousand lighted kites sent aloft Remembering those who’ve lost their lives In our hearts there’s a place that is soft Children who should’ve never faced gunfire The unimaginable took them from us Were they with us, they would inquire What did you do when guns proliferated, When the mentally ill roamed the streets, While our futures were summarily obliterated? We will stare dumbfounded without reply We will send a thousand lighted kites aloft We will ask, as they do, why?

I despise war where children suffer so and “should never have to face gunfire”.

Me, too, Caren. Little children should never have to live through that kind of horror.
