Not only did Jackie Robinson become the first non-white player in MLB history on April 15, 1947, he scored the winning run of the game, to the cheers of Brooklyn Dodger fans everywhere.  Today is 'Jackie Robinson Day' in Major League Baseball, and deservedly so.  Only it really should be Jackie and Rachel Robinson day...

Rachel Robinson, Jackie's wife, still alive for me When she speaks of April 15, 1947, conversationally The day that Jackie broke the toughest barrier There ever was and may ever well be The color-line barrier in MLB * She speaks with candor with eloquence so refreshingly Caught up with living in a hotel back then with Jackie and their little baby Yet, as she says, she somehow sensed That both their roles that day made history ___________________________________ *Major League Baseball The top professional league in the USA
