They Are Who They Are

Though they have had to know you from a distance you see...
They are who they are in spite of you and me...
Having to grow up with half an extended family as it has been...
Only to wind up loving you regardless in the end...
But there are those times when they say they wish you were here...
And they question if you ever did truly care...
Because they see that I've had to inevitably choose...
For you to win and in your eyes only for me to lose...
And just to let you know you have played an invaluable part...
In shaping their mind on the world in matters of the heart...
So, consider this they not only have been isolated but they've also been ignored...
And left to carry in absence of your presence a feeling of being insecure...
Debts that will never be paid in full you see...
Because not only do you owe them you also owe me.
