There Once Was

There once was a girl a very special girl but he was too shy to tell her so so she passed him by and he let her go there once was a girl ~ There once was a boy a very special boy but she was too shy to tell him so so he passed her by and she let him go there once was a boy Bridge After graduation he went off to the war She got a job in a grocery store Both of them deep inside silently swore If I ever, ever see you again.... ~ There once was a girl a very special girl she sent him a letter said I love you so when you get home I'll never let you go There once was a girl ~ There once was a boy a very special boy he sent her a letter said I love you so when I get home I'll never let you go There once was a boy Bridge She opened his letter and read what it said He never saw hers, he was already dead When she found out, she silently swore I will never ever love again... ~ There once was a boy a very special boy but she was too shy to tell him so so he passed her by and she let him go There once was a boy ~ There once was a girl a very special girl Now every day there's a rose on a grave an old woman's love which she'll always save for there once was a boy

This is like a rose. It opens very slowly allowing further and further toward the centre where sits a bee.

Wow! I had to ponder and savor this comment for a while. War songs are my specialty, but I much prefer sillies. Had a Canadian friend while in our army. (He had enlisted in the US army). When he got tired of it, he quit and went home. Often wished I could have done that!

Hi John, You have penned some sad and heartbreaking lyrics. They brought tears to my eyes . Lyrics such as these make good songs because they tug at the heartstrings. Well done-Alexis

Thanks Alexis. I think I like sad songs because they're usually slower and easier to play. Thought I might see if Dolly Parton would want to record this;-) Well, 'nuff said for now, gotta go find some sillies! Huggasnoods! ~ john

Thanks Eve. The structure is representative of the pacing of the song as it is played/sung. The guitar part is quite mournful as well. I guess I was "feeling the blues" when it all came together. Seems I compose about 50/50 silly and sad when I scribble songs. Thanks for stopping by. Huggerdas! ~ john
