Notes About The Poem

Theodicy: A Defense of God's goodness and omnipotence in view of the exitence of evil

Genesis 3:22a "Then the LORD God said "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil"

Theodicy An Odyssey

In the quiet dawn of human thought
Where questions rise and answers fade
Theodicy embarks on a journey sought
A map for shadows in the light of shade

Once in the realm of perfect peace
Where creatures dwelled in grace with Him
A gentle turning and conscious lease
Began the distance in our hallowed cranium

Not born from void nor conjured wild
Evil traced its path in mind's domain
A thought, corrupted, mind beguiled
Gave form to sorrow, guilt, and pain

It is not God's own hand that crafts
The darkness crawling through our days
But human will with free choice so vast
Imagination through this maze

God, aware, does not create
Malice's pensive in our story
(but's ordained what we've stained)
He knows each turn, each chosen fate
And holds the world with silent glory

Some call it myth, a tale to spurn
Unwilling to accept or see
A God whose wisdom lets us learn
Through choices forged in sinnery

Yet simple words, denial’s art
Cannot erase what lives within
Redefinition plays no part
From a simple choice to sin

So ponder still where evil lies
A journey deep within our soul
In theodicy an odyssey wide
Are answers to make the seekers whole

Epilogue:
Put two two year old's in one room, one toy, same time
And watch evil be birthed as each says "Mine, mine!"
So as it started in The Garden
Jesus came to propitiate and as our Pardon
