Then Shall Sleep
Winter’s bite
is in the air tonight
and the moon is risen overhead
casting shadows like the witches have aforesaid,
but old folktales will not warm my bones nor sweetbread
will provide, I’ll make my bed beneath
the stars and scrubby heath,
then shall sleep.
