Their Poetry Stays With Us

A Poet comes, a Poet goes Their poetry stays with us A candle's lit, its flame burns bright Pauses, flickers, vanishes in the night Ghostly outline traced, lingering light A Poet comes, a Poet goes Their poetry stays with us An elegant sonnet, a lyrical rhyme Iambic pentameter's syncopated time All outlast the greatest poets of the past Shakespeare and Milton, Shelley and Poe Byron and Coleridge, all once did glow Their earthly sparks long ago extinguished Their poetry lives on, forever distinguished A poet comes, a Poet goes Their poetry stays with us

Chaim, it's a small world after all, as the Disney-ites sing: My first exposure to yeshiva was at Machon Me'ir back in 1977-78. Machon sent a Rav every Erev Shabbos to give a Parsha shi'ur, all the way out to Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu out where my then-wife and I were. How about that?... As for BRISK, I taught in General Studies and tutored slow learners in Mishnayoth and Ivrit at BRISK Chicago for almost 15 years until 2003, a year before that yeshiva closed. (btw: I am a chozer b'tshuva). Happy Tuesday! ~ Gershon

You have named my most favorite poet of all time - Samuel Taylor Coleridge! For that alone, I am excited about this poem. All the rest of the words are lovely also, and I do hope poetry will ALWAYS be.

Hopefully our poetry will outlive us too. A lot of their poetry didn't really surface until they were gone. Tom
