The Writing On Wall Calendar of Eternity

The Writing on Wall Calendar of Eternity
David J Walker

Do the dearly departed keep track
Of the days since being
Laid away to rest in a grave
Forever?

Are there spirit calendars on Golden walls
Marked with x’s by disembodied fingers
as if they were dying
for a weekend to come?

My father-in-law,
who left just us a week ago
May have run into my father who
Has been gone for 36 years

But I don’t know
why time would mean
a single thing in eternity

It’s not just the bell that tolls
The clock ticks off its tocks
For thee,
           And me
