The Wound and the Light
The Wound and the Light
A deep wound on the back, a stinging ache,
A profound rupture with a heart that breaks,
The pain smoulders and holds its deadly sway
With long shadows lingering every day.
The pain hurts and oft spurs in me a frown,
A heavy feeling like pulling me down,
I try to hide it, not to show a weep
As a secret sorrow invades me deep.
Yet in that deep wound, a space soon appears,
A gentle aperture for unshed tears,
Where gleams of light penetrate, soft and thin,
To heal, restore and refurbish within.
Through that wound, so sensitive and still raw,
A light that marks a difference does draw,
Not harsh or glowing bright that burns the eye,
But with a gentle shine that softly lies.
It`s the light that clears darkness, chases fear,
Whispers a sweet tune of hope in my ear
To build myself with a strong shining thread
And rise anew despite the pains that dread;
The light that enters me, sparkling quite clear,
Reflects on my aches, dries my every tear,
Reveals the inner strength I did not know
And supports my spirit to grow and glow.
It`s light that sows seeds of kindness, so true,
A space for empathy to push on through,
That allows me to feel others` pains near,
And wipe them away with a silent tear.
