The Wink

It began in the era of the Big Band She was a young beauty He was a handsome lady’s man Walking through town friends hand in hand She was unaware fate was to take a stand He drove by with his brother at the wheel A wink he would give her in hopes her attention to steal With a toss of her head and her nose in the air He thought, “she’s too stuck up for me to care.” Her beauty and goodness were too much to resist Love at first sight and he would have to persist His life had been changed from that day. He proved to her, she could trust him, no matter what others would say They were united and when looking back There were never harsh words or any regrets It wasn’t always easy but no one would know Their love and respect was all that would show They raised us with their love and caring Always with giving and always with sharing On that gray January day Who would have thought and who’s to say? The Lord sent a sign with a dove Of what began with a wink so many years before This part of their life ended with that wink, a wink of love Don’t be sad and have no regrets Eternity is waiting there in Heaven With a wink of new love a seed will be sown A song will play To Each His Own.
