The Wilderness Is Always Beautiful
The wilderness is always beautiful,
whenever one stumbles upon it
and everywhere one looks, it's blissful
to spend an entire afternoon exploring it!
Sit by that small pond loved by skylarks and observe frogs
leaping while a golden retriever watches them and barks,
and pulling them out of the murky water, color mud,
he holds them in his mouth savoring warmblood!
Walk with an unhurried pace, don't miss a flock of hens
looking for mates along those paths that hide surprises,
a small finding can be thrilling and significant,
make a note of it on your short travels;
and while picking up yellow or red poppies,
think how to desiccate them and place them neatly
between the pages of a poetry book you bought
at Barnes & Noble that you have displayed elegantly...
only outside noises can distract you from reading more,
let the telephone ring, delight in the words you adore!
The wilderness is always beautiful
when seeing with curious eyes
while your interest will increase
and your enthusiasm grows
even those Palm Warblers are tuneful
that the boy-scouts surely can please!
The wilderness is always beautiful,
its forests are the safe home of the Gray Jays
and of other birds with boundless freedoms;
listen to their melodies so cheerful!
