The Wife

There was a man who took a wife,
	And promised to keep her all his life.
And when she died he did much despair,
	But kept her still, which was only fair.
He did her nails and combed her hair,
	And sat her in her favorite chair.
He was really clever that old fox,
	But he could not put her in a box.
And when a neighbor came by to inquire,
	He said she was watching Longmire.
So she sat and sat, and kept very well,
	The fact she was dead, you could hardly tell.
And one winter's day when the man fell ill,
	He sat in his chair, beside her still.
He sat and sat until he did die.
	His promise to keep her had not been a lie.
