The Way, the Truth, and the Life

Jesus is the way,
And God directs the steps to take.
So, how can a man know
And order his own path,
Except it lead him right to destruction?

Jesus is the truth,
And God's word, faithful and pure.
So, why should a man trust
And believe his own heart,
Which above all has deceitful instruction?

Jesus is the life,
And God gives it more abundantly.
So, what does it profit a man
[On his own] to gain the world
And lose his soul in pride and seduction?
