The Way I Met You

When I look at you I see the person that I wish that I could be

When I talk to you I hear the words that I wish that I could say

As time goes by I will do all I can to turn you into me

As time goes by I will see me in you and then turn away

We meet someone and fall in love with who they are

Yet we try to change them into who we want them to be

On our quest we stop at nothing and no way is too far

We bend and twist, but is this really what we want to see

When you look at me I admire the person that I cannot be

When you talk to me I listen to the words that I cannot say

As time goes by you will fight my attempts to turn you into me

As time goes by you should stay yourself and I won't turn away

That poem was so beautiful. I’m grateful that you took the time to share it with me. I’ve never heard anything quite as powerful as that.
