The Warrior

I am a warrior,

fighting the battles

of life's challenges,

tripping over the cracks

on the sidewalks,

drinking cold coffee,

listening to sad songs,

working on taxes,

calling in borderline sick,

and driving the combative zone

of rush-hour traffic,

what seems so important now

will eventually become faded

pictures found in a family album

whose dusty covers are a reminder

that warriors are not immortal.

This is amazing. I love the imagery, Sonia! I actually started laughing to myself with the first several lines thinking "how fitting an idea for a poem" and got to the last five and a whole different emotion bordering saddened nostalgia swept me up. If you don't know it, listen to the song "Tall Buildings" by John Hartford. It inspires the same emotions in me.

Jesse, sorry for the delay in replying to your encouraging comment on my poem, 'The Warrior.' I will be listening to the song you suggested, 'In Tall Buildings.' Thank you, Sonia.

"In Tall Buildings" rather. and the best version is done by his son Jamie Hartford.

True Warriors may not be immortal, but stay a Warrior to the end!! Life makes us Warriors! I will enjoy reading your works! :-)
