The Wandering Heart

The heart is a great traveler
Who moves to dangerous places,
For he is an edgy vagabond gambler
Who sometimes finds, sometimes misses.

The fact that he lost does not make him less a wanderer
And his finding does not mean he is a champion,
His winning is intertwined with his losing
For victory has in defeat a companion.

He is not a brave heart that hasn’t traveled
For the gallant soul is given to aimless wandering,
The seasoned curious heart has once marveled
At the hidden unknowns of the extra mile.

He is not a valuable heart that has never lost
Since every golden soul must savor success and loss,
For both mean the same for the restless heart
That has made discovery his driving force.

Beautifully written. I must say I had to read the poem a few times because it is complex. Excellent flow, the poem came together well. Enjoyed it tremendously. A definite 7! Thank you.

With each failure comes another obstacle to conquer, which is something the heart lives and strives for... I enjoyed this deep and thought provoking poem. Very well penned, Hannington!

I like how you give a distinctive character to the heart, defining it as a separate entity, Hannington. Very creatively written, too :)

For some hearts, the need to discover trumps both joy and pain, so it continues it's endless jouney through life savoring the moment, but never looking back. Excellent write my friend.

I very much enjoyed your poem. The development of theme, the pleasantly poetic phrasing, and the consistently logical though somewhat unexpected progression was well done...and the quixotic suggestiveness of the wanderer as lone explorer going where he will and must in temporal and in mental planes is most appealing. Well done.
