THE VOICE OF GOD IS HEARD

Vain cares of the Future

“Vain cares of the future
Do not disturb our gentle slumber
Ambition has never conquered us
With the untroubled life
That the Creator gave us
We are at peace and content”

THE VOICE OF GOD IS HEARD

In the boxwood scented moisture
Of this ancient city cloister
Breath presses against breath – and then a voice
Heard passing through the centre of my soul
It was the voice of God, I heard it clear and whole

“The world’s more full of weeping
Than you can understand”
“The world’s more full of suffering
Than appears to you at hand”.

Behind this pain and suffering in an eternal ground
There flows the ever-present sweetness of God’s love
Touching and dissolving away the suffering that's found
Uncertainty and worry cannot pass into its perfection
Beckoning all who hear it to remain happy and sound

Beyond the anxious worry and cries of today
Which fill our time with tears
The voice spoke out as if God were very near
Live, enjoy, like innocent nature that lies
In care-free blessed blue and cloudless skies
Unconscious in its trusting faith cancelling out all fear.
