The Vanishing Smile
A smile makes all the difference
To a person's day
It costs nothing to smile
So they say
It is obvious it sticks out a mile
There are more people frowning
Than those wearing a friendly smile
What has wiped the smile from a persons face
Is it the state of the world
That is affecting every race
It's like an epidemic
People look so sad
Too much that's seen and read
Seems so gloomy and bad
Rows of empty shops
And empty office spaces
Pubs, Clubs and Restaurants
Would like to see more faces
So they can carry on
Sadly too many of them
Are going, going, gone
The ethics of the powers that be
Seems senseless and futile to me
Cheaply built buildings
Are erected everywhere
Employing the jobless
That seems fair
It's hard to understand
When they are finished
They stand empty for ages
Built then diminished
Nothing is built to last that is for sure
Maybe that's the reason
People are not smiling anymore
