The Value of Simplicity In Poetry

          God, I am but
          a mere poet.
          Heaven knows,
          I show it.

          Not here to wash
          poets in the grand
          waves of the Sea of
          Thesaurus.

          Speaking for myself
          and others,it really
          bores many of us.

          Nor in imagery so
          grandiose there are
          too many of those!

          Like an uncontrollable,
          garden hose.

I just try to be honest
          and clear!

          No tricks, no zaniness
          like a runaway, deer.

          I keep my poems short
          I do respect your time.

You will find truth, I do
          promise.

           No falsehoods of any
           kind!

Hello Panagiota, when a poem is way too long I read it for awhile. then i quit because I lost the meaning of the poem being too long. Hugs Darlene xx

One should be able to read and enjoy a poem without having to keep looking in a dictionary to look up words. Tom

I agree! Not everyone has humongous vocabularies. Worse, some are reading as though driving through a stormy road. Weeds, downed trees...,I cannot even read it. A sonnet form or blank verse keeps us on the path. 30 line Poems? NO...like being lost in the woods. Pangie. Xx
