The Valentine Cats

We call them our valentine’s day cats the old lady said.
The kids are fighting over who gets them after we’re dead.
So, they really like cats, I said to her. That’s lucky then.
No, the cats inherit the house, and everything within.

Will they care for them? I ask, a tiny bit concerned about this.
They don’t inherit anything unless they reach old age, Miss.
I am wondering now who will take the monkey and dog.
They go to my son, who will also take my pot-bellied hog.

Will he inherit anything else? I ask the old lady who grins.
Sure. He gets the barn, and the goats, six of ‘em twins.

There's something very macabre in this write, Caren. Hmmm...let me see if I can put my finger on it.
