The Unwanted Glance
Look closely at my hand.
Proudly I display a band.
It tells everyone in the room,
I am taken.
I do not have to say more.
It is not necessary.
God is the witness,
and none shall separate.
Yet the flashing ring,
dares others,
a few…
like a bell.
It seems to draw
and taunt,
the fruit of
something that…
is not yours to have.
It has been taken.
The value,
A woman, a lover, a lady,
a help mate, a soul mate,
a wife.
A blessing,
a gift you can not steel,
it can only be lost.
Yet pressed again,
Intruders, showing their worth.
Not heroes or helpers,
not wise or true,
but full of self worth,
and carry ties on
all gifts that bind,
forever,
even
un-intentionally.
