The Unsaid Word
He didn’t cause a scene or make a big deal
He wasn’t really mean for my fate he could seal
But as he walked past he soon caught my eye
And that look that he cast just made me want to die
Standing in that isle that candy in my hand
Like I was on trial testifying on the stand
And as our eyes met I just suddenly completely froze
For out of all my childish lies this one he really knows
And as he looked away putting pretzels into his cart
He changed my life that day by reaching out to my heart
He did not stand in judgement but only came in kindness
So as off he soon went my dignity was no less
Looking down at those gum balls then back towards his way
As my newly formed conscious calls out a little louder today
How did he seemingly know and just what to do
Not needing a big show to teach me what’s true
I took those gum balls that day and walked towards the door
As I went to pay in choosing not to steal anymore
That was a long long time ago a day I will never forget
But I just wanted him to know what a great example he had set
