The Unbroken Circle

The Unbroken Circle

A million miles or more it seems,
I’ve traversed this land in search of answers to my dreams.
Only to return to the point I had started from,
With shattered dreams and an old body that is now stiff and numb.

But what I have learned is a treasure that no one can replace,
And every wrinkle and scar tells its own story and makes up the caricature of my old face.
My looks now are more somber as I wait out the days,
And thoughts of how I wasted my youth in so many sordid ways.

I know when we were young we had problems just seeing past our nose,
But as we grow older our eyes seem to come open as our faith in our Father grows.
Then we see the mistakes our children make and try so hard to cushion their falls,
But they rarely heed our advice or listen to our pleading calls.

Life seems to be a circle with no beginning and no end,
As we pass on our traits to our loved ones that lie waiting just beyond the bend.
Then they take the torch from our hands and we simply fade away,
And part of us they carry and help to guide them through each and every day

Wise words, Ronald -- "every wrinkle and scar tells its own story." I like to think of these as character lines. Seeing life as "a circle with no beginning and no end" is something we learn from experience. Well done! Makes me feel better about the aging process.

Sounds like a pretty good circle to me, especially when it is connected by faith. We all make our mistakes and hopefully, learn to become better people in the process. Blessings to you for sharing this thought provoking poem about life. Thank you for your kind words on my poem. Have a good day! Karen

OMGosh you speak my heart. It's one of those things I want to talk to God about. By the time your heart and head come together your body is so tired and desperately you want your children to hear. It's not meant to be. My wrinkles are from millions of smiles, well except the one above my eyebrow which I tend to raise a lot. My dreams will remain dreams and will probably stay just as vivid until the day I die but oh boy am I going to have fun in heaven!

Wow, you said a mouthful, all of it right on the nose. When we are teens we think we know it all. As we get older we wonder where all that knowldge went. Great poem, all of us with years on can relate, we only hope they can straighten out what we messed up. Thanks for sharring. Judy Riley
