The Truth Hurts To Hear

Why is the truth
So hard to hear
When the past is gone
And the present is near?

Why are lies
So easy to say
When tempers are high
And stress fills your day?

Is it because
They're the easy way out
Of a tough situation
Where you're troubled with doubt?

Or is it because the truth
Is usually hard to hear
For every time it's mentioned
Someone seems to shed a tear.

Or could it be that you fear
Your hope will begin to crumble
For when the truth is spoken
All the walls you built will tumble.

So do you continue to lie
And make things seems better than they appear
Or do you tell the truth
Even if it sometimes hurts to hear.
